Solera No.20 Eau De Parfum Review: The ₹999 Unisex Daily Driver

Solera No.20 unisex Eau De Parfum 100ml bottle

Every couple who shares a bathroom shelf eventually has the argument: whose perfume is taking up the space, and why do we own seven bottles that each get worn twice a year? Solera No.20 is the peace treaty. It is a genuinely unisex citrus woody spicy eau de parfum, it costs ₹999 for a full 100ml, and it is deliberately built to be the one bottle two people reach for on the way out the door.

It is also, quietly, the most versatile scent in the Solera collection. Here is the full review.

What Solera No.20 smells like

The classification is Citrus Woody Spicy — three words that describe the three acts of the fragrance almost exactly in order. It opens juicy, turns peppery, and lands on warm woods. No act overstays its welcome.

Top notes: orange and grapefruit

The opening is pure sunshine. Orange brings a sweet, familiar juiciness; grapefruit sharpens it with a bitter, zesty sparkle that keeps the sweetness from reading as childish. Grapefruit is the note doing the "unisex" heavy lifting up top — it is bright without being sugary, brisk without being cologne-stiff. First impression: clean, awake, friendly.

Heart notes: pepper and pelargonium

Then the spice cabinet opens, gently. Pepper adds a dry, warming crackle — not chilli-hot, more the aromatic lift you get when peppercorns hit a hot pan. Pelargonium is the geranium family's contribution: a green, rosy-minty note perfumers love because it reads floral to some noses and herbal to others. On a woman, this heart leans subtly rosy; on a man, subtly green. Same juice, two stories — this is what a well-made unisex fragrance actually means.

Base notes: vetiver, cedar, patchouli, benzoin

The dry-down is a proper woody foundation. Vetiver gives an earthy, smoky-green depth; cedar keeps it clean and structured; patchouli adds a dark, slightly chocolatey earthiness that gives the base some swagger. Benzoin — a sweet balsamic resin that smells faintly of vanilla and cinnamon — softens all that wood so the finish is warm rather than austere. Hours in, No.20 smells like polished wood and warm skin. Nobody will ask whose perfume it is. That is the trick.

Who No.20 is for — and when to wear it

Short answer: almost everyone, almost always. Longer answer:

  • Couples sharing a bottle: the obvious pitch, and it delivers. One ₹999 bottle replacing two ₹1,500 bottles is the kind of maths relationships are built on.
  • Daily wear, year-round: the citrus top handles Indian summers; the peppery-woody base gives it enough warmth for winter days. It is the closest thing Solera makes to an all-season scent.
  • Office: completely safe. The spice is a murmur, not a shout. It slots straight into the shortlists in our office and everyday perfumes guide.
  • Anyone who finds "men's" fragrances too dark and "women's" too sweet: No.20 walks the exact middle of that road.

Its only real limitation is drama. If you want a scent that makes an entrance at a wedding reception, the citrus-pepper brightness here is too polite — that job belongs to No.24 or No.14. No.20 is the reliable colleague, not the wedding guest.

The ₹999 / 100ml value question

Let's keep this honest and specific. The going rate for a mid-range 50ml fragrance in India sits around ₹1,000–₹1,500, and plenty of those are eau de toilette, the lighter concentration. Stylera's own Fraganote bottles are ₹1,199 for 50ml. Solera No.20 is ₹999 for 100ml at eau de parfum strength — twice the juice, higher concentration, lower sticker price. Per millilitre, it is roughly half the market's usual ask.

And for a shared bottle, effective cost halves again, because two people are wearing it. ₹999 split two ways for months of daily wear is chai-money territory.

On longevity: we do not publish invented hour-counts, ours or anyone's. What we can say structurally is that No.20 is built as an EDP, with vetiver, patchouli and benzoin — durable base materials — doing the late-shift work, so it is designed to be long-lasting the way EDPs generally are. If you are new to what EDP versus EDT even means, our beginner's perfume guide untangles it in five minutes.

No.20 vs the other Solera numbers

All four Soleras are ₹999 for 100ml, so the choice is purely about character:

  • vs No.18: the sibling rivalry. No.18 is the men's fresh citrus woody — cooler (mint), sweeter (vanilla, tonka), and more traditionally masculine in its dry-down. No.20 trades the mint for pepper and the vanilla for benzoin, landing drier, spicier and more shareable. Both are daytime champions; No.20 is the one that works on everyone.
  • vs No.24: the other unisex Solera, and its opposite shift. No.24 is a warm, powdery woody-amber for evenings, winters and festive nights. No.20 is the day scent, No.24 the night scent — the pair make a complete unisex wardrobe for under ₹2,000.
  • vs No.14: No.14 is the women's saffron-jasmine floral amber, romantic and evening-leaning — a different mood entirely.

Curious how the in-house line holds up against the wider Indian indie scene? Our Solera vs indie brands comparison takes that question seriously.

FAQ

Is Solera No.20 really unisex, or is it a men's scent in disguise?

Really unisex. The grapefruit-pepper-pelargonium spine reads rosy-fresh on some skin and green-spicy on others, and the benzoin-softened base avoids both heavy masculine smoke and sugary feminine sweetness. It was composed for the middle, not relabelled into it.

Can No.20 be worn in summer?

Yes — the orange-grapefruit opening is at its best in heat, and the base is woody rather than syrupy, so it does not turn heavy in humidity. It is arguably the best warm-weather pick in the Solera line alongside No.18.

How long does Solera No.20 last?

Longevity depends on your skin, the weather and where you spray, so we will not quote a fixed number. It is built as an EDP — higher fragrance-oil concentration than an EDT — with long-wearing base notes like vetiver and patchouli, so expect typical eau de parfum staying power. Spraying on fabric helps too.

Which Solera should a first-time buyer pick?

If you can only buy one bottle for everything — work, weekends, sharing — No.20 is the rational answer. If you know you want a men's freshie, take No.18; for evening warmth, No.24; for a feminine floral amber, No.14.

Solera No.20 is the daily driver of the range: bright enough for a Tuesday morning, warm enough for a Friday evening, and priced so that sharing it is a feature, not a sacrifice. Smell it at our store in Aurum Mall, Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai, or order from the Solera collection with pan-India delivery.
