Gudi Padwa 2027 falls on Wednesday 7 April. It marks the first day of Chaitra and the Maharashtrian new year — the day the gudi goes up outside the door at sunrise, the rangoli goes down at the threshold, and in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai the shobha yatras fill the streets by mid-morning.
It is also, traditionally, a buying day. Gudi Padwa is one of the saade teen muhurat — the three and a half most auspicious days of the Maharashtrian year — which is why new clothes, vehicles and gold move on this date more than almost any other.

The colours: saffron first, then gold and yellow
Saffron is the Gudi Padwa colour. It is the shade of the cloth tied to the gudi itself, and the dominant colour of every procession in Maharashtra that morning. Yellow, marigold and gold sit alongside it; deep green and white work as supporting colours.
- Women Mustard Kurta With Lace (Rs.799) — the closest thing to saffron in the range, and far more wearable afterwards than a true saffron.
- Women Yellow Striped Yarn-Dyed Kurta (Rs.799).
- Women Pink Ethnic Motifs Printed Gotta Patti Kurta (Rs.799) — gotta patti gives the gold without the weight of real zari.
- Women Multicolor High Twist Anarkali Kurta (Rs.699) — an anarkali reads traditional in a procession crowd.
For men, the traditional Gudi Padwa look is a kurta with a Puneri pheta. A short kurta in an off-white or light tone takes the saffron pheta best:
- Off White Dobby Stripe Short Kurta (Rs.1,099).
- Ivory Green Dobby Stripe Short Kurta (Rs.1,099).
- Uri Mint Dobby Motif Short Kurta (Rs.1,099).

Dressing for an April morning in Maharashtra
The single most underestimated thing about Gudi Padwa is the heat. Early April in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai is genuinely hot by nine in the morning, and the shobha yatras run through the middle of it.
- Cotton, not silk. The traditional instinct is a silk or brocade set. In April humidity, a cotton or cotton-linen kurta is the better call for anything involving standing outdoors.
- Light colours over dark. Saffron and yellow happen to be the right choice for the temperature as well as the tradition.
- Footwear you can walk in. Processions cover distance. Flat, closed or well-strapped — our women's footwear edit has flat options that survive a morning of walking.
- Nothing that suffers from sweat. Heavy embroidery at the underarm and neckline is the first thing to mark. A lighter cotton like the Women Geometric Print Cotton Linen Kurta (Rs.699) or the Women Ikat Woven Design Kurta (Rs.699) handles an April morning better than brocade.

The buying-day tradition, and how to use it
Because Gudi Padwa is one of the saade teen muhurat, it carries the same "buy something new" weight that Dhanteras does in the Diwali week. Practically, that means two things worth planning around:
- Shop before the week itself. The days immediately before Gudi Padwa are the busiest retail days of the Maharashtrian spring — in stores and online both.
- Buy what you will wear again. A saffron kurta worn once a year is a worse purchase than a mustard one worn through the summer. The pieces above were chosen on exactly that basis.
If you are in Navi Mumbai, our store at Aurum Square in Ghansoli carries the full range in person — see the Aurum Square shopping guide and the Aurum Mall store directory for what is where.
Gudi Padwa 2027 FAQ
What date is Gudi Padwa 2027?
Wednesday 7 April 2027. Gudi Padwa falls on the first day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, so the Gregorian date shifts each year. It is the same day as Ugadi in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Cheti Chand for the Sindhi community.
What colour is worn for Gudi Padwa?
Saffron above all — it is the colour of the cloth on the gudi and of the processions. Yellow, gold, marigold, deep green and white are the supporting palette.
Is Gudi Padwa a good day to buy new things?
Traditionally yes. It is one of the saade teen muhurat, the three and a half most auspicious days in the Maharashtrian calendar, and new purchases — clothes, vehicles, gold — are customary.
What do men wear for Gudi Padwa?
A kurta, often with a Puneri pheta in saffron. A short kurta in a light or off-white tone is the most practical version for an April morning and lets the pheta carry the colour.
